Sunsweet

The brand of the prune and apricot growers’ cooperative, whose Plant 1 stood in downtown Campbell.

The California Prune and Apricot Growers Association formed in 1917 and in 1919 bought the Campbell Farmers Union Packing Company, whose three-story building of 1912 became Sunsweet Plant 1. People called the association Sunsweet after its brand.

Sunsweet also used the old Hyde Cannery site from the 1930s until 1971. Its floats won the grand award in the Old Settlers’ Day Parade in 1950 and 1957.
