Prune Festival

The Chamber’s May festival of the late 1970s to 2000, with its magenta mascot Super Prune.

The Chamber began the Prune Festival in the late 1970s, sponsored by Sunsweet, at the Pruneyard and the Community Center field. It had crafts, food, music and, in the 1980s, a baking contest in which every entry had to use prunes.

Its mascot, Super Prune, was a magenta prune in costume. When prunes were rebranded as dried plums in 2001, the Chamber chose a Mardi Gras theme instead, and the festival became Boogie on the Bayou.
