Gaslighter Theatre

The 1920 bank building at 400 East Campbell Avenue that became a cinema and then a melodrama house.

B. O. Curry put up the building in 1920 for the Growers’ National Bank. It became a movie theater, and from the 1960s the Gaslighter staged melodrama and vaudeville, where audiences hissed the villain and cheered the hero.

The Gaslighter closed in 2006, and the building was later refurbished as a wine bar and restaurant.
